Strange experience with paypal.

I sold an item on ebay perhps 4-5 months ago, somehow buyer sent payment to my old email address I have had with paypal 8-9 months ago before today date. as i didn't check email, payment was sent back. When I came to know this I sent an email to buyer who replied that he would send payment on new email address asap, which he never did. I have been contacting ebay and lately paypal but most of the times I don't get any reply, few times they reply giving suggestions, call buyer, send an invoice to him etc. etc. Response of ebay and paypal is quite surprising for me, It is world's largest online business but they can't solve this problem which is very small for them but for me it is a big problem as my $260.00 seem to have been lost. can anybody help, I will be very grateful.
