I used PayPal 5 days ago to send $1200USD to secure a villa rental in the Caribbean. I got a mail from PayPal saying they needed to verify my account was mine and that they would debit ?1.50 from my account in order to generate a 4 digit PIN on my statement. Fair enough. I got the PIN and sent it to them. In the meantime – and actually BEFORE I provided the PIN they took $1200USD from the card I had provided. Then they immediately limited my PayPal account. I’ve had to go through password verification and re-setting of security questions (twice!) and then they asked for confirmation of name so I sent them a Driving Licence. The account access has now been restored but they still have my money and have not forwarded it to the seller. The transaction still sits in the “Resolution Centre” with the status “Being Reviewed By PayPal”. There is no possibility for me to write to PayPal via the Resolution Centre, it’s not clear why they haven’t sent my money on to the seller, or for how long they will continue to hold it. When I click on Help I get this message: (really unbelievable)

1. Log in to PayPal.
2. Click Profile at the top of the page.
3. Click Language Preferences under the Account Information column.
4. Select a language form the drop-down list and click Save.
5. Go back to the Help Center by clicking the Help link at the top of the page.
To change your language preference back to English, repeat the steps above and select U.S. English.
I was logged in, and there is no option for U.S. English (what is this anyway!?) When I click on Security Center the page opens in FRENCH with no option to change the language. It’s inconceivable to me that PayPal have my money and can seemingly keep hold of it for as long as they like, at their whim. Maybe they will release it, but right now I have no way of knowing if they will, or when. It’s practically impossible to get in contact with them, or get any meaningful information. I’ve asked the seller to see what they can do from their end.
I would caution anyone thinking of sending money via PayPal to find/use another option if possible. PayPal sucks alright.
