First PayPal sided with me then they took my money

Sold some wheels on craigslist. Buyer asked if he could use paypal to pay me due to the total amount (couldn’t get that much money out of an atm in one day and wanted them for the weekend). I agreed figuring the worst that could happen is him trying to do a chargeback. Money is sent to me, he comes and picks up the wheels (to heavy to ship anyway). I have him sign a bill of sale, get his license plate number, and save all the texts with him agreeing to the purchase. Next day he does a chargeback (bastard). I write to paypal sending them all the info I have, the texts (with his phone #), the signed bill of sale, his full name, and license plate numbers. 2 Months later paypal awards me the conflict and gives me my money back (I still have the email from paypal stating I won). 3 months later paypal makes my account negative saying I owe them the money back because the credit card company didn’t agree with there decision. So now my account has a huge negative balance (can’t use paypal, been a verified member for over 10 years before this), and I can’t persue the police report I filed because it was too long ago and would be useless. I refuse to give them money that belongs to me and they already awarded to me (because buyer either stole someones credit card or just wanted something for free).

    What happened to you is that first the buyer filed a dispute with paypal which you were lucky to win( paypal rarely side with a seller on local pick up). The buyer still wants his money back and keep the wheels so he files a chargeback. All he has to do is say that this was an unauthorized transaction and he’ll get his money back. Paypal will not fight for you in case of a chargeback but instead let the credit card company determine the outcome which is always in favor of the buyer since you, the seller don’t even get a chance to state your case. This is by far the biggest drawback with using paypal and more and more buyers are starting to take advantage of this.
