Paypal wanted my debit card number when paying as a guest

Very minor prob but still infuriating. I wanted to give a small contribution to a hobby website which I use almost every day. I am not a member of paypal but they said I could use paypal as a guest. So I entered all my information but they told me that I would have to use a different credit or debit card. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my Mastercard and I have never had an unpaid debt on it; I have a suspicious mind and was not prepared to hand over my debit card details, so I left it 24 hours and tried again – same result. So I filled in a complaint form and emailed it. Paypal came back and said thanks for the information which will save time and told me to ring a number to discuss the problem – AT £1.53 PER MINUTE. I was only trying to subscribe £10 to the hobby site but Paypal obviously see this as an opportunity to make a chunk of cash. Well Paypal, you can get lost. Never ever will I have any more dealings with you. Hate to think what could have happened if I had given them my debit card number!!! (I will be watching my credit card account like a hawk to make sure they have not been fiddling with that).

No good deed goes unpunished as they say. Paypal makes everything so difficult and you’d have to be crazy to gove them your debit card number next thing you know someone “hacked” your account and your money is gone. Paypal can never be trusted and it is time for people to learn this.
