Welcome To About PayPal! Join the Revolution

AboutPaypal.org is an Anti-Paypal website created with the sole purpose of exposing the horrors of doing business "The PayPal Way". We are committed to assisting the public in making an informed decision about PayPal.

This website is a collection of horror stories, news reports and other information addressing problems with Paypal, Inc..

“Permanently Locked Account”

I assume that, unfortunately, most people will only get to this site when they feel they have been burned dealing with PayPal. And I assume, most people would wish they had come across this site earlier, preferably before having done transactions with PayPal.

I myself would have been glad if the information I intend to provide on this web site would have been available to me before I signed up.

If you don’t feel burned yet having used PayPal, you may think, like many others, that when dealing with a company that operates so openly, surely everything must be in order. After all, so we all think, US government regulations will assure a sufficient degree of protection of the public.

But this doesn’t seem to be the case with PayPal, and I am not the only one with this opinion.

Reported Damien Cave on February 23, 2001, on Salon.com: “Many of the people who helped put PayPal on the map — the small-time buyers and sellers of everything from Beanie Babies to Victorian greeting cards — now spend their time trying to form class-action lawsuits or advising others to stay away.

According to Damien Cave’s article, “PayPal thrives in what many consider a dangerous form of legal limbo.” Also from Damien Cave’s article: “As one FTC lawyer put it, ‘if they filed for bankruptcy tomorrow, no one knows what would happen to their accounts.’

You hand your money to PayPal, and “Thiel [a co-founder] and his . employees [are] asking for nothing less than blind, pre-Depression trust.[Damien Cave]”

What triggered me to set up this site was an email I received from PayPal only today, after waiting and waiting, and numerous polite inquiries. The mail stated:

Re: Restricted Webform: auto-bp (KMM15642011V79497L0KM)

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Following an investigation, this account has been permanently locked due to violations of our Terms of Use. This decision may not be appealed.

Sincerely, PayPal Account Review

I am not aware of any violation of their Terms of Use, and they didn’t bother to tell me what Terms of Use provisions I violated. The Terms of Use have some 1300 lines on my screen, and it takes about two hours to read them.

And the short mail above did not contain a word about the money on the account (467.11 US dollars). money from subscribers to my health-related sites.

I won’t go down without a fight. I am a journalist of good standing, and I won’t forego honestly earned money to a company who claimed to investigate matters pertaining to my PayPal account but never bothered to ask me any questions.
